The Biennial Rendezvous

The World Association of Psychoanalysis (WAP) gathers together seven Schools, located in different countries on different continents. Characterised by a diversity of languages and styles, it is a trans-linguistic experience that aims to keep the Lacanian Orientation, and psychoanalysis, alive in the world. Effectively, all of its members have one thing in common: their theoretical references, their concern for the formation of the analyst, their way of practising psychoanalysis and their doctrine on the end of analysis. Its members, living in different cultural environments, feel, one by one, that they form The School ONE, sharing its destiny, that of psychoanalysis.

Since 1994, the members of the WAP have gathered every two years, at first in the form of assemblies (in 1994 and 1996) and, since 1998, in Congresses. The WAP Congresses are dedicated to addressing a particular theme in order to contribute to the advancement of the discipline. It is an opportunity to actualise the doctrine and update psychoanalytic practice, taking into account the context of its offering in the world. By presenting their current practice during the clinical sessions at the Congress, psychoanalysts subject the results of their experience to scrutiny and have them recognised by the audience. By subjecting their day-to-day practice to a precise orientation, it is a matter of continually learning to better speak about their practice.

The WAP is committed to making a place for new generations, following in the footsteps of Lacan, who relied on relatively inexperienced young analysts to keep the relation to the unconscious fresh, and to ensure renewal within his School.

This means that younger members and non-members are welcome to attend the Congress.

The Commission J, which is dedicated to young people, will open the door to their participation in the Congress, in particular by facilitating their stay in Paris (accommodation, meals, etc.).
